I often get asked, "How am I supposed to eat 7-8 servings of fruits and veggies in a day?" The standard American diet does not give anyone the adequate nutrition they need to stay healthy and get the nutrients their body needs to function. Here are some suggestions to help:
1. Eat 1 meal of just fruits/vegetables
This is can be easy! For breakfast cut up a banana, pear, apple, grab some grapes and blueberries and enjoy the colorful plate of nutrition! Lunch or dinner can be done by a plate of fresh produce. I like to cut up a green or red pepper, a cucumber and some carrots for a meal. Of course you can always try just a salad for the main course, but don't forget to top it off with a pile of your favorite produce!
2. Smoothies
Green smoothies are all the rage right now, but a smoothie doesn't have to be filled with greens. Mix it up and find flavors that you enjoy. Eating healthy doesn't have to be a chore. Try some of my delicious smoothie recipes to add extra nutrition to your diet.
3. Fresh juice
Have you ever seen Fat, Sick & Nearly Dead? I highly recommend this film! What an eye opener on how whole foods can change our health and even reverse terrible illnesses and diseases. I started juicing for my family when my teenagers started getting acne. This was one of the best things I ever started doing for my family. Now that they are grown and have their own families they are still juicing!
4. Have a delicious dessert!
You read that right, try this EASY recipe that only has 2 ingredients in it for a delicious snack.
5. Have fresh produced cut up and ready to eat
When I get home from the grocery store each week I take the time to cut up some of my produce so I will grab it as a quick snack. Carrots, celery, cucumbers and bell peppers are some of my favorites to cut up and have ready to go in the fridge. Also, rinse all of your fruits and vegetables right away so you can grab a hand full or grapes or an apple when you need a snack.
