7 Habits of Organized People

Doesn't this make your mouth water?  So clean, bright and organized!  I wish it was mine!

Here I sit at my computer, trying to organize my thoughts and decide where to begin!  I have so many things going through my mind of what I want to write about today on the topic of organization.  But there is one problem...

I am NOT a writer!

But, I am passionate about organizing.  But, I have a confession...

I am not perfect at it and have to work just as hard as anyone else to be organized!  The difference between me and an unorganized person is just that I try really hard, every single day!  So, today I am writing on the topic of:

7 Habits of Organized People

Honestly, I could have put 20 or more habits, but if you are struggling with being organized, the last thing you need is a long list of things you need to do! Right?  I know if I feel overwhelmed, the shorter my list, the better!

So, here is a short list of things to implement into your daily routine:

1.  Put things away after you use them.  This should seem very simple but for some people, it is so hard!  It might be your blow dryer, hairspray, the peanut butter, your purse, keys or jacket.  So many people just set them down and don't put them away.  All this does is add to the clutter that you still need to tackle, so put things away.

2.  Have a place for everything.  This is harder to do but will pay off in the end. If you have a place for everything, then it makes putting things away much easier!  If you are just beginning or organizing, then I suggest having a basket for those things that don't have a home yet.  CAUTION: Do not let the basket get out of control or it defeats the purpose!

3.  Don't be afraid to throw things away!  Throwing things in the garbage, or taking them to someone in need (never add to other's clutter just to get rid of your own!) can be so hard!  But when you finally experience the weight that is lifted when you have an area organized, it will feel ABSOLUTELY AMAZING and be a little easier each time!  If you haven't used it in 6 months, TOSS IT!

4.  Have routines that you do morning and night.  Make it a routine to clean as you go when you are making meals.  Make it a routine to always to the dishes as soon as the meal is over.  Make it a routing to make your bed every morning. You get the idea...these routines are what keep you organized!

5.  Enlist the help of your family!  You didn't make the mess alone and you shouldn't be expected to clean things up on your own!  Plus, kids need responsibilities...you don't want to raise slobs!

6.  Deal with paperwork/mail as soon as it comes in the house.  Sort it, have a home for what doesn't belong to you and put it there immediately.  NEVER set mail/papers on the counter!

7.  Keep flat surfaces clean.  Make it a habit to keep them cleaned off so you don't have to deal with extra, overwhelming cleaning.  We all have a lot of flat surfaces in our homes and they can get out of control pretty quick!

These are 7, fairly easy things to do but it will take effort to make them habits.   Don't give up!  Keep trying!  As I wrote these, my mind was flooded with ideas for posts on each item.  I will probably focus on each one of these every day for the next week as I write posts.  Just don't give up and it will all come together!

Now, I think I need to go clean something!
